Eva Levesque, Lana Floen, Therry Lawson and Keith Floen are The Travelling Mabels. An ACMA award winning folk/country group from southern Alberta, who for more than a decade, have brought their own unique brand of harmony, musicianship and down home humour to Canadian audiences from coast to coast.
The group was formed in 2008. Over the next ten years they collectively wrote and recorded three Cd’s and have enjoyed extensive airplay on radio stations such as CBC and CKUA. Their song release, Alberta Blue, has been a long time fan favourite and features a cameo vocal performance by the legendary Ian Tyson.
February of 2020 the group spent a week in New Orleans representing Alberta at The International Folk Alliance conference. Shortly after returning home, the world stopped.
Unfortunately, due to Covid19 restrictions, touring and performing have all but dissappeared this year, except for a few outdoor summer shows and socially distant backyard house concerts.
Undaunted, the Mabels have tapped into their creative energy and are currently in the studio recording material for their newest CD and are eager to share it with the world in early 2021.
Additionally, they helped to develop and contribute music video for Tom Jackson’s Almighty Voices fundraiser. Working alongside the Unison Benevolent Fund, they have raised thousands of dollars for the arts community that has been impacted so heavily by Covid 19.
Episode 6 features the songs Alberta Blue and Superman. Episode 12 also features a musical tribute to our fallen Snowbird, Captain Jennifer Casey, as well as a Canada Day finale featuring the entire cast. Everything was filmed and recorded at home, and at times, individually and then assembles later, due to not being able to perform in the same space together.
As an ardent fan once humorously stated “If the Eagles and the Trio (Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris) were a family, then surely their children would be The Travelling Mabels”.
